What is IEA Summer Institute?

The IEA Summer Institute is a premier professional development opportunity tailored for public school educators and education support professionals (ESP) in Idaho. Scheduled over four days, this event offers over 50 classes covering a broad spectrum of topics relevant to contemporary education. Led by experienced educators, the Institute focuses on practical skills and techniques that participants can readily apply in their classrooms. The emphasis is not just on imparting information but on demonstrating how to effectively utilize it to enhance teaching practices.

Participants have the flexibility to choose from various classes that suit their needs, ranging from classroom management and student engagement to innovative teaching methodologies and time-saving strategies. The curriculum also addresses hands-on learning experiences and provides insights into understanding evaluations for career advancement. Additionally, there are sessions dedicated to personal and financial well-being, recognizing the holistic needs of educators.

Attendees have the chance to earn up to four credits for the in-person sessions and up to two credits for the online component. These credits are offered through ISU at no cost this year, further enhancing the accessibility of professional development opportunities for educators in Idaho.

Are Meals and Lodging Provided for Summer Institute?
Yes! Meals are provided during the conference. Each day begins with breakfast from 7 am - 8:15 am. Lunch will be served at noon. Dinner will be on your own.

Yes, your lodging is covered if you're staying in a dorm. When you arrive at the Institute, you'll need to check-in at the Registration Table to pick up your dorm key.

Non-members will need to make their own lodging arrangements, but breakfast and lunch during the conference are included in the conference fee.

What do I need to know about staying in the dorms?
For comfort, you might want to bring a folding chair as the dorms do not have furniture in the common areas during the summer. The college provides bedding (sheets, towels, pillow), but they are not luxurious. You are welcome to bring yours from home. You will need to bring toiletries with you (soap, shampoo, etc.). The dorms are set up as suites with private sleeping rooms, a common area and shared bathroom. There is a refrigerator and small kitchenette in the common area.

We'll be using two dorms, one on campus and one off campus. The Summer Institute bus will provide transportation twice daily to those staying off campus. Both dorms are air-conditioned.

Is there a Keynote Address at Summer Institute?
On Wednesday, July 24, we are pleased to welcome longtime IEA member Representative Sonia Galaviz, Ed.D as our Keynote Speaker. Dr. Galaviz had nearly two decades of experience as a teacher, primarily in the Treasure Valley, before winning her seat in the Idaho Legislature, where she continues to be a strong advocate for educators and students in Idaho.
